Air Permit Application for Expedition

Next Section

Apr 30, 2026

Tenaska has filed an air permit application for the proposed Expedition Generating Station with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). As part of our commitment to transparency and open communication, we want to be the first to share this news with you.

DEQ has a thorough review process that provides multiple opportunities for public engagement. We expect this process to span about a year.

In addition, Tenaska is preparing Expedition’s application for a wastewater discharge permit under the Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (VPDES), administered by DEQ. The application is expected to be submitted this summer.

Once both of these applications have been filed, we anticipate hosting an open house in Fluvanna County specific to air and water. Details will be announced later.

Expedition must receive these permits, as well as approval from the State Corporation Commission, before advancing to construction. On our current timeline, construction would start no earlier than late 2027 and continue for roughly four years. Operations would start no earlier than late 2031.

We are excited about the development progress made to date, and we will continue to provide updates as our work progresses. If you have questions for our team, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
